Model X Falcon Wing Door

Not a Gull-wing Door

The Falcon Wing Doors are one of the most complex but stunning features on the Tesla Model X. Although other exotic cars have similar style doors, none
function in the same efficient way to maximize cabin space and external sensory. These doors use state of the art sensors to open and close in the most constrained spaces, and look beautiful while doing so.

Though challenging to design, many unique and untouched engineering methods were developed to implement the production version. While working
on this project, I helped to design and build the first structural prototype. Because this build was so early in the Model X development stage, we were able to simulate the Model X chassis on an existing Model S frame. This took skilled design and fabrication to create something representative of the real door. In consequence, this allowed other engineering teams to test both hardware and software needed to allow the door to function.
